FAQs

If I snore do I have sleep apnea?

Not everyone who snores has sleep apnea, but frequent, loud snoring is a warning sign that should be taken seriously. If you snore and feel sleepy during the day go to your doctor.

Your snoring could be more than an annoyance, it could be an indication of a serious sleep disorder.

What is sleep apnea?

Sleep apnea is a condition where a person repeatedly stops breathing, or their breathing becomes very shallow while they sleep.

These episodes can occur up to hundreds of times a night, and seriously compromise the quality of a person’s sleep.

How does an oral sleep appliance work?

An oral sleep appliance treats obstructive sleep apnea by gently moving the lower jaw forward which keeps the airway open. The appliance is custom-made for each individual to provide a superior fit.

By keeping your airway open, you will be able to breath more easily throughout the night and experience deeper more restful sleep.

How does CPAP work?

The patient wears a facial device that applies positive air pressure until the airway is forced open. This device is highly effective when used, but many patients find it too uncomfortable to use regularly.

What if the oral device does not work?

While 91% of patients report improvement with their oral device, for some patients with severe obstructive sleep apnea they need a more intensive treatment to meet their therapeutic needs.

If you have any concerns that your device is not working properly, please contact us so that we can make adjustments to your treatment.

Will my oral device be comfortable?

Most patients find their oral device comfortable since it was custom fit and adjusted for their mouth.

After wearing the device for a short time, most people hate sleeping without it since they notice such a difference in their sleep quality.

Once they have experienced the benefits of deeper sleep, it is very uncommon for a patient to stop using with it.

How long will it take to receive my oral appliance?

It usually takes less than 10 – 15 days to receive the oral appliance.

Does the Healthy Sleep Center accept Medicare?

Yes we do!
